I actually am not sure why I chose the name Cherry Dreams back when the collective first opened. I love cherries and somehow, this phrase popped into my head. Eh-heh... ^^;
Give me some credit though~ When I started thinking about registering a domain name, I had actually planned to change it to "Defying Gravity" because that would accurately describe what exactly my purchasing a domain means. If you've known me for a long time, you would know I've been trying to buy a domain for at least three years, but that hope has been crushed time and time again by some rather restrictive parents. Haha. But, since I've finally got one, against all hopes and odds, it's kind of like defying the laws of physics, so the term "defying gravity" fits perfectly xD
But the phrase is rather popular, and the name has been registered with most of the extensions since there are so many fans of the Broadway play, Wicked. Heh. So I started badgering people for help with another way of saying that you're doing something that should be impossible. No one was any help --; (One of my friends even gave me this 'Why the hell should I help?' attitude. How expected from her.) Except Rae <3 She came up with some good names that then inspired me with some other names. After running around and collecting votes on which phrase people liked the best, I finally chose one!
But... After all that hassle, you can see that I didn't use it ^^; I was too attached to the old name, since it had been with me for almost four years. Ahah *sweatdrop* (Besides, the new name didn't sound right once you heard it <.<) ... Yeah, I'm pathetic -.-
Cherry Dreams, the collective, officially opened on February 2, 2004. It was originally hosted on 101h.com, but 101h crashed, leaving Cherry Dreams homeless for a little while.
It eventually moved to rainfall.t35.com . Then Falling Rain took its place, and Cherry Dreams was housed in a small folder off of that sub-domain. What a pathetic home for a collective, huh? *laughs*
However, t35.com suffered a hardware failure in October 2006, wiping out the databases for the free accounts, including the one Cherry Dreams was hosted on. I re-uploaded the collective on November 4, 2006, but it soon disappeared again anyway. I was too annoyed to try re-uploading it again. Haha ^^;
But finally! I convinced my mom to let me purchase a domain, so I registered the name with Globat on December 13, 2007 and purchased hosting from Surpass (as Kenni recommended) on December 16, 2007. Cherry Dreams officially re-opened as a domain on January 1, 2008. What a way to start the new year! -^__^-
